Dee Dee Roper, internationally known as DJ Spinderella, is a Grammy award winning DJ, producer, rapper, writer and world class mother. Spinderella is one of the original pioneers

of hip hop music beginning her career as a member of the iconic rap group Salt-N-Pepa, selling over 15 million albums and singles worldwide.

Over two decades after her groundbreaking entrance into hip hop, the Brooklyn native still sets the standard for “turntablisit” all over the world and is still a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. It has never been simply about cuts, beats, and rhymes says the Grammy, MTV, and BET Award Winner. “I’ve been blessed to be in the game for so many years, when many others have come and gone,” says Spinderella. “This industry is all about fun and entertainment, but humility and professionalism will take you far. I’ve also had great mentors such as DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Scratch, and the late Jam Master Jay.” Spinderella still performs with her sisters Salt-N- Pepa, and recently rocked an electric performance on Oprah in April of 2011, which showcased “Women Who Rock”. With the flick of her wrist, Spin has juggled single motherhood while conquering grand scale events and holding down her international reputation as the “Universe’s #1 female DJ”.

EMCEE

Hip-Hop's first emcee Sha Rock on Women in the music & the industry with Mana: I think there's an era for everything. When I was coming up in the game you had a whole slew of ladies. But I think as women, we sell ourselves short. We've allowed people to dictate how we move. I get what Lyte was saying, about one or two females being in the limelight.  But you shouldn't let that stop you from moving, just be aware that's how the industry is right now. The industry is not going to put a lot of money behind women because they don't think women could carry the weight. They will put money into...I don’t want to say it...ooh, let me say it...They will put money into a whack ass rapper not bringing anything to the table but some simple ass s#*t, Instead of bringing a female that can handle her own and can engage a crowd.  That's the first time I ever said that, but I had to say it.

BREAKDANCER

If you type in 'BGirl' in a YouTube search you'll find a plethora of ladies doing their thing on the floor. But in the early days of Hip Hop the only young lady you'd see on the floor was Ana Rokafella Garcia. At a time when breakin' was completely dominated by men, Roka broke the mold and ushered in the era of the BGirl. Shemovement's Chrysta Monique got a chance to connect with Rokafella to find out what motivated her to step on the floor and make HERstory.
