Get To Know: Detroit Che
Detroit Che is a young emcee from Detroit, Michigan. A few months after graduating from Specs Howard School of Media Arts, she was blessed with the opportunity to rap for one of her favorite lyricists, Kendrick Lamar. Once Kendrick...co-signed her as, "one of the illest emcees," She "Knew from that point, I was destined to continue my path as an artist". After achieving multiple accolades, Detroit Che wanted to use her voice not only for music, but for something that she believes in. Last year, Che experienced the tragic lost of her best friend Renisha McBride, when she was shot and killed in Detroit. That's when she "decided to use my platform and bring awareness to senseless murders".
Following her win on Sprite's HOT 16 contest, Che landed a spot on the 2014 BET Awards Cypher. She choose to use the exposure as an opportunity to speak out about the issues afflicting her community. After the awards show aired, she was then invited on the BET College Tour. Che is now ready to hit the ground running. She is now set to headline her own show in December -The Shelter, in Detroit-, and I will continue to "work hard to get my message to the people."
