Get To Know: Aminah Bell
The soulful Aminah Bell has always been surrounded by elements of the music industry. Her father is an original member of Kool and the Gang and her mother was a former Radio personality. However, Aminah didn’t start off singing. In the 5th grade she began playing the drums and also crossed over into acting as well as voice over work. Although Aminah has yet to release her own project, she’s featured on Alia Sharrief’s hot single “Black Heroes” which discusses social justice issues in Black America and plans on being featured on many songs in the near future. Aminah plans on displaying her talents on the drums by doing instrumental work as well.
With experience studying under students of the talented jazz drummer Elvin Jones, marching in the Clark Atlanta University and Atlanta Drumline marching bands, doing McDonald’s commercials, and performing with her dad, it’s safe to say Aminah has the credentials to be a big influence in the music industry. She hopes to make an impact through many different avenues on the mic and behind the scenes; she also attended school for Audio Engineering. Aminah strives to dispell the portrayal of women in a negative light, and to prove that modest women with a cause deserve the same type of attention and praise as those who are in the spotlight for more superficial reasons. Such as Iggy Azalea, whom she sees as a pawn in black woman’s destruction in the hip hop industry as well as the culture.

Aminah’s inspiration doesn’t come from one artist in particular, as she feels everyone has their flaws. Aminah derives her artistic ideals from growing up in the historically political Oakland California, musical figures and her own faith. "Growing up in Oakland has definitely had an influence on my music, especially when it comes to openly expressing my political views". Musically, she is heavily influenced by Hip Hop, jazz, R&B and Old School Funk. Her goal is to be an artist that in 5-10 years from now, people will say she had a serious movement. Aminah plans to reach outside the box while maintaining her Muslim faith with element of entertainment.
Currently Aminah and Alia are regular preformers at the "Zulu Nation Thursdays" Showcase in West Oakland, California, as well developing a Youtube Channel. “The Hijabi Chronicles”, will look into the lives of two " African American" Muslim women(Muslimah) in the Bay Area. The channel will feature Alia and Aminah's combined projects, music, events, interviews, Dawah, News and more. "We are planning a website as well". “The Hijabi Chronicles” will also include music and interviews of people who share the same message, while spreading a peaceful product to the masses. With this project, the ladies hope to not only debunk the bad images of Black women in the media, but the images of muslims, muslim women, and people of color in general. "I believe its time to set better examples in the entertainment industry and I hope to be one of those examples that will lead the way". We wish Aminah all the best of luck and hope to hear more music from her in the near future.
